For us, every waste has value. At our three facilities, we manage, store, and treat municipal and special waste – both hazardous and non-hazardous – transforming it into new resources for the community.
Thanks to advanced technologies and information systems, continuous innovation, and our daily commitment to environmental protection, we give concrete form to the circular economy -combining sustainability, efficiency, and cost control.
AVR is steadily strengthening its position in the environmental services sector, where it operates in urban hygiene, waste management along highways and roads, environmental remediation, and the operation of facilities for the sorting, treatment, and storage of waste.
In the field of plant operations, AVR manages three platforms for the storage and treatment of both municipal and special waste (hazardous and non-hazardous), located in Guidonia Montecelio (Rome), Acquaviva delle Fonti (Bari), and Capurso (Bari).
The platform became operational in May 2016 and consists of three distinct and independent processing lines: one dedicated to the treatment and recovery of street sweeping waste, and two others for the sorting of recyclable solid waste from separate collection (paper/cardboard packaging and plastic/lightweight multi-material packaging).
The street sweeping waste treatment and recovery line allows for the recovery of approximately 96% of incoming waste, transforming it into certified-quality sand, gravel, and grit that can be reused as raw materials in the construction sector. This is made possible by a unique soil washing technology in Italy, patented by Ecocentro–Gruppo Esposito. It is the first plant in the Lazio region capable of diverting street sweeping waste from disposal, returning certified raw materials and combining environmental sustainability with economic savings through lower disposal costs.
The paper/cardboard and lightweight multi-material (plastic and metals) recovery lines enable the processing of up to 30,000 tons of separately collected waste per year, including from municipalities where AVR manages urban hygiene services.
2023 Data Highlights
The Guidonia Montecelio platform, authorized under D.D.R.U. 6129 dated 31/10/2014 for the management of up to 59,640 tons/year, became operational in May 2016. It consists of three distinct and independent processing lines:
LINE 1 – Treatment, Recovery, and Valorization of Street Sweeping Waste
This line uses a patented soil-washing technology developed by Ecocentro – Gruppo Esposito. It features a counter-current washing system that separates:
LINE 2 – Sorting of Recyclable Solid Waste from Paper/Cardboard Collection
This line includes a loading hopper and a conveyor belt with two to three operators who manually remove contaminants. The output includes:
LINE 3 – Sorting of Recyclable Solid Waste from Plastic/Lightweight Multi-Material Collection
This line is equipped with a system of machines—including bag openers, ballistic separators, electromagnets, and optical sorters—that enable an initial separation of packaging materials from contaminants.
Subsequently, within dedicated cabins, operators perform quality control to remove any impurities left by the machines. The sorted materials include:
Thanks to its high sorting efficiency, the recyclable materials are classified in the highest quality tiers. This ensures that the relevant supply chain consortia (Corepla, Comieco, Ricrea, and Cial) recognize the highest economic compensation, benefiting both local administrations and waste management operators who deliver waste to the AVR facility.
The AVR Group has always believed in the importance of empowering and nurturing new generations, as they represent a true beacon for the development of a global awareness rooted in sustainability and circularity.
For this reason, we have chosen to share our expertise in the environmental sector with schools and students, a field in which we care deeply and respectfully for the land and the environment.
We have opened the doors of our Guidonia Montecelio (RM) facility through an educational program that has become a well-established initiative in the Lazio region and beyond.
The on-site guided tour offers students the opportunity to witness firsthand the waste treatment process, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the importance of proper waste separation and recycling.
