The Global Service for the management and maintenance of the road network of the City of Florence – A Regola d’Arte – entrusted to AVR Group, provides an integrated system of activities, services, and works. This cutting-edge contractual model has been active since 2018. Over the past five years, the bond with the city has grown stronger, and the company has chosen to also make its expertise in green area maintenance available to the Administration.
Among the various proposals submitted to the Municipality, the selected project involved the use of perennial herbaceous plants.
This comprehensive redevelopment has resulted in the creation of 17 circular flowerbeds of various sizes, hosting approximately 3,000 plants within an area of 2,500 m².
Perennial herbaceous plants do not develop woody structures like shrubs, but they can survive seasonal cycles and continue to grow and bloom for several years. Typically, these plants lose their aerial parts during the colder months and sprout again with the arrival of spring.
They are usually small in size with compact growth habits. Some bloom in summer, while others flower continuously from spring through autumn.
The use of various perennial plant species allows for staggered blooming throughout the seasons, enabling a combination of colors, leaf shapes, and plant forms and sizes.
The flowerbeds were bordered with Corten steel edging, and the soil inside each bed was cultivated and fertilized in preparation for the planting of perennials.
Specific plant species selected for the site include:
Gaura lindheimeri, Agapanthus africanus, Perovskia atriplicifolia, Echinacea purpurea, Imperata cylindrica, and Rudbeckia fulgida.
In addition, a new turf lawn covering approximately 1,800 m² was laid.
The redeveloped green area was officially handed over in July, in the presence of Mayor Dario Nardella and Environment Councillor Andrea Giorgio, directly by our CEO Claudio Nardecchia.
This is a technical sponsorship project that also includes ongoing maintenance of the area, with the aim of offering residents and visitors a pleasant and welcoming entrance to the city.
